Kaikoura
Deep sea fishing charters are available from Kaikoura for expeditions, species caught include Blue Cod, Sea Perch, and Grouper.
There is great fishing for children off the wharfs, with catches including sprats and perch.
Over the hill from Kaikoura is South Bay which is one of many other great spots in the area.
Kaikoura is famous for its Crayfish or New Zealand Rock Lobster and these are caught in cray pots which are set and pulled up by fishing boats or divers.

Lake Tekapo
Fly fishing in the crystal clear waters of a river in the Tekapo Mackenzie District provides a spectacular backdrop and some challenging Rainbow and Brown trout fishing.
The rivers are shallow, braided and generally have good open river bank access.
Lake Tekapo is a stunning glacial fed lake with rich turquoise coloured waters. There is good trout fishing on the lake, the canal and on the two adjacent lakes Alexandrina and McGregor.

Wanaka
Trout fishing in Wanaka is possible on the lake and surrounding rivers.
Rainbow and Brown Trout and Salmon can be caught from the lake by trolling or spin fishing from a boat or still water fly fishing from the banks.
The Clutha River is renowned for its populated waters and provides excellent fly fishing, as do the other surrounding rivers including Hawea, Makarora, Matukituki and the Hunter.
