DFrom Turangi, take SH41 north towards Taumarunui, travelling 14kms to Pukawa Bay. Turn right into Pukawa Road. Oreti Apartments entrance is 1km down this road. It is advised to stock up on provisions in Taupo or Turangi as there is only a small shop in Next Bay.riving Directions
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
from WELLINGTON to ORETI APARTMENTS, PUKAWA BAY, LAKE TAUPO.
Follow SH1 North toward Lake Taupo & Turangi Township.
After approx. 3.5 hours you will go through Waiouru Township & Army Base.
Follow SH1 across the Desert Road about 50kms (Snow covered mountains
should be on your left.)
You will arrive into the Turangi Township with a small Industrial area on
your left.
On the left about 200 metres is SH41 to Taumarunui TURN LEFT HERE.
Stay on SH41 and note the following landmarks (distances approx) as follows-
4 kms over bridge -power station on left.
3 kms Tokaanu Hotel & Shell Station on left
3 kms up Waihi Hill. Steam vents on left hand side.
3 Kms PUKAWA road on right. (note pines trees just before corner)
TURN RIGHT into the Pukawa Road (1 km down this road is the Oreti Apartments entrance
& sinage, Turn right into this road and the office is 100 metres.
Total distance from Turangi is approx.14kms.
There is only a small local store in the next bay, so you may wish to pick up supplies
in Turangi on your way through.
In this instance turn into SH41 and 100 metres on the right is the Anglers Paradise
Motel. Turn right here and the Turangi Town Centre is about 500 metres ahead.

Option Route 1
The following route driving South through Taupo Township is the more scenic option as
you travel around the lake.
Follow SH1 down to Taupo Township. About 3 hours.
Stay on SH1 for another 50kms (32miles) approx. 1/2 hour drive & you will go over a bridge
into Turangi Township. Stay on SH1.
On the right about 200 metres is a Shell Petrol Station / Burger King and another 200 metres on your right is SH41
TURN RIGHT HERE.
Stay on SH41 and note the following landmarks (distances approx) as follows-
4 kms over bridge -power station on left.
3 kms Tokaanu Hotel & Shell Station on left
3 kms up Waihi Hill. Steam vents on left hand side.
3 Kms PUKAWA road on right. (Pines trees just before corner)
TURN RIGHT into the Pukawa Road (1 km down this road is the Oreti Apartments entrance
& signage, Turn right into this road and the office is 100 metres ahead.
Total distance from Turangi is approx.14kms.
You may wish to pick up supplies in Taupo or Turangi on your way through.
Option Route 2
A shorter route is via the Western Access Road.
Go South to Tokoroa, through the town and there is a road on your right,
which is SH 32 ( A sign says Hospital)
Turn right here and follow this road to Whakamaru. (approx. half an hour drive).
You will drive down a hill and meet a Y intersection. Stay to the right and
go over the bridge (top of the Dam) and into Whakamaru.
There is a few shops and you turn left before the BP Petrol Station. Remaining on SH 32.
Follow this road for about 45 minutes until you reach a T intersection
on SH 41 at Kuratau Junction.
Turn left toward Turangi onto SH 41 driving for 8 Km and you will go past
the Omori / Kuratau turn off on the left.
The next left (about 200 metres) is the Pukawa Road (note pines trees just after corner)
Turn Left onto Pukawa Road (1 km down this road is the Oreti Apartments entrance & signage
Turn right into this raod & the office is 100 metres ahead.
No supplies except the small shops at Whakamaru on this route.
